Due to the recent snow storm, Renton School District students and educators missed five full days of school. Here is the work we’re doing to create a schedule to make up those lost school days.
HOW WILL WE MAKE UP THE MISSED SCHOOL DAYS?
We will use the one scheduled snow make-up day, Tuesday, May 28, which was built into this year’s school calendar. Additionally, we will add a day to the end of the year, Friday, June 21 (Thursday, June 20 will now be a full day; Friday, June 21 will be a half-day). High School graduations remain on schedule.
GOVERNOR INSLEE DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY: DOES THIS MEAN WE DON'T HAVE TO MAKE UP SNOW DAYS?
Renton School Board submitted a request to the state’s education office for a waiver for students for the remaining three snow make-up days. The state's education office has granted the waiver. So, students will not need to make-up the remaining three missed days. Our last day of school for students is Friday, June 21. (See/download revised calendar here.)
The three-day waiver is for students only. Our Human Resources Office will continue to work with our union partners to determine the impact for staff make-up days.
WILL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONIES BE RESCHEDULED?
High school graduation ceremonies will remain on schedule.
