There are SOAR expectations for various areas within Nelsen, such as Academic Spaces, Hallway, Hawks Hangout, Cafeteria, Courtyard & Field, Bus Zone and the Front of school.
Nelsen Middle School will cultivate positive relationships to provide the whole child with a supportive learning environment where EVERY student builds skills to become lifelong learners.
Dear Nelsen families and visitors to our web site,
Greetings, and welcome to the Principal’s Message on the Nelsen website! Whether you are a current NMS family or are simply interested in our school, I hope our website can provide you with a variety of helpful resources, as well as a glimpse into our excellent school where we are proud to call ourselves Hawks!
Nelsen Middle School is a diverse and vibrant community of learners, which means that students and staff from a variety of backgrounds walk through our halls daily, providing opportunities for us to learn from and about one another, as we join together as a learning community. We have a very active PTSA supporting all the wonderful activities we have in our building.
Student learning is the central focus of our work. Our staff members have high expectations for our students’ performance, and provide a challenging curriculum to ensure students meet grade level standards. As we implement the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), our teacher teams are regularly engaged in training and collaborative planning to prepare our students for these rigorous academic expectations.
As we all know, success in school, college, and career requires more than academic skills, which is why we also have a Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) program, whereby we teach and re-teach our behavioral expectations using the monthly character traits located in the student planners. At Nelsen, we help our students grow into caring members of the community.
