Swim Lesson Levels

General Information

  • Class sizes are limited and depend on the class level.
  • Classes and levels may be combined depending on enrollment numbers.
  • Refunds will only be made when a special circumstance requires a student to withdraw. A non-refundable $5.00 fee will apply. There are no cash refunds.
  • Transfers after registration will incur a $5.00 change fee.
  • There are no make-up lessons for those who have missed a session. Refunds or credits will not be given for missed lessons.

These skills are the minimum requirements for each level. Placement tests are conducted during public swim for free, and no registration is required.

Lesson Level Description

Tiny Tots (TT)

Ages 6 months to 4 years old.

A time for parents and babies to be together in a low-key water adjustment setting. A parent or mature helper is required for EACH child.
Preschool 1 (PS1) Ages 3 to 5 years old.

This class is for the child who is ready for a class experience without the parents. Be sure your child is READY for this class.
Preschool 2 (PS2) Ages 3 to 5 years old.

Previous water adjustment training is recommended. Must be able to submerge and blow bubbles for 5 seconds, can float on front and back for 5 seconds, glide 5 feet on front and back, and is ready to learn how to swim.
Preschool 3 (PS3) Ages 3 to 5 years old.

Can float on front and back for 7 seconds, front and back glide for 10 feet, swim at least 15 feet on the front using beginner stroke or crawl stroke and 15 feet on the back using finning and kicking or backstroke.
Youth Level 1 (L1) Ages 6 years and older.

The child is ready to begin their swimming experience. There are NO entry-level skills for this class.
Youth Level 2 (L2) Ages 6 years and older.

Must be able to submerge and blow bubbles for 5 seconds, can float on front and back for 5 seconds, can glide on the front and back for 10 feet, and swim beginner stroke for 15 feet.  
Youth Level 3 (L3) Ages 6 years and older.

Submerge head for 10 seconds, can glide on front and back for 15 feet, kick on front and back for 20 feet, swim combined stroke on front and back for 20 feet, and demonstrate front crawlstroke and backstroke.
Youth Level 4 (L4) Ages 6 years and older.

Can kick and roll front to back, from side to side for 45 feet, can swim front crawlstroke with breathing to the side for 45 feet, whip kick on the back and backstroke for 45 feet. 
Youth Level 5 (L5) Ages 6 years and older.

Front crawlstroke with side breathing and backstroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 45 feet, whip kick for 45 feet.
Youth Level 6 (L6) Ages 6 years and older.

Front crawlstroke and backstroke for 50 yards; breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke for 25 yards; swimming on back with kick for 45 feet, and tread water for 1 minute.

Adult Level (A)
Basic and intermediate swimmers only. This class is geared toward students ages 14 and older who are either first learning to swim, seeking remedial training, or scared of the water.
