Credit and Enrollment Timelines

Student Guide to Understanding Credit & Enrollment Timelines

Trimesters

  • There are 3 Trimesters in a school year
  • Each trimester is approximately 12 weeks (60 school days)

To graduate, students need 26 credits (greater than the state minimum).

  • 4 Language Arts
  • 3 Math
  • 3 Social Studies
  • 3 Science (2 lab sciences)
  • 1 CTE
  • 1.5 PE
  • 0.5 Health
  • 1 Fine Arts
  • 9 Elective (which may include 2 WL or PPR)

How earning credit works

First 10 Days You can change classes
Nothing goes on your transcript
Days 11-30 If you drop a class:
  • 0.25 credit with a grade (A–D); or
  • W/NC (no credit, no grade)
Days 31–60 If you are enrolled in a class after day 30, you earn:
  • 0.5 credit with a passing grade
  • A–F grade will be awarded
After Day 31 Every dropped class gets a grade.
Special Rule:
Pass the final exam or equivalent assignment(s) earn 0.5 credit, even if you started late.
Incomplete ("I") Need more time?
  • With teacher approval, make a plan for completion
  • Finish within 30 days
  • The “I” appears on your transcript for a maximum of 30 days, then becomes and “F” or the teacher’s final grade
Dual Credit CTE If a student enrolls after the 30th day of a trimester, the class may use Pass / No Credit (talk with the teacher)
Last 10 Days Enroll during the final 10 days = Audit only (no credit)

REMINDER: You get credit for the work you do. Your school must honor that credit.

Credit Recovery

Credit recovery is only available if you have previously attempted the course, which includes having been present for at least 30 days in the class in which an F was received

  • All credit recovery courses are online via Edgenuity
  • You must be enrolled by a counselor
  • Credit recovery seats may be limited
  • Students closest to graduation have priority
  • The length of the course depends on what you already know

Online credit recovery courses are one of many ways to recover credit after failing a course (learn more about Credit Recovery). Additional options include:

  • Retake the same course
  • Take an equivalent course
  • Demonstrate mastery via an assessment or earning credit in the next course in a sequence of courses (A/B).
