Transfer Request
Please keep in mind the following:
- Requests are granted based on: capacity of the requested school and program availability.
- You will have to provide your own transportation.
INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFERS
Students in the district are assigned to attend the school designated for the geographic area where they reside. However, a family may request that their child be allowed to attend another school in the district.
- Intra-District requests must be completed annually.
- Renton School District Policy 3131 Intra-District Transfer Students
- NOTE: Eligibility of students for extracurricular activities may be impacted by rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and Renton School District policy.
CHOICE TRANSFERS INTO RSD
This process should be initiated through the school district in which you live.
Families may also use the Choice Transfer Request Portal to submit your request.
- Transfers will be granted based on capacity and program availability. TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SCHOOL WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.
- New Students and Kindergarteners:
- Families will be notified two weeks after the start of the new school year with approval or denial decisions
- Choice Transfers are required annually.

- NOTE: Eligibility of students for extracurricular activities may be impacted by rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and Renton School District policy.
CHOICE TRANSFERS OUT OF RSD
Student's school and resident school district is based on where the student resides. In some circumstances, a family may ask to transfer their student to a school outside of their resident district.
For Renton School District, it is not required that you register your student to submit a Choice Transfer Request.
Please use the Choice Transfer Request Portal to submit your request , releasing your child from Renton School District to attend another district.
