I-Ready

i-Ready is a diagnostic assessment built to support students and teachers in improving student learning. 

The i-Ready diagnostic assessment is a standards-aligned, computer adaptive assessment that measures how students are progressing toward grade level standards in ELA and math.  It provides teachers with specific standards-based information on student learning.

What is i-ready video

The i-Ready diagnostic assessment is administered three times a year in math for students in grades 1-5 and in math and ELA for grades 6-8.  The testing windows are in September, January and June.

Kindergarteners will be administered the assessment two times a year in math beginning in the second diagnostic window in January.

Students in schools in the Renton Innovation Zone will be administered the assessment in September only.

When trying to access iReady from home, it is best to use a  laptop, desktop, or your district issued Chromebook.

• Please Note: personal iPads will try to push students to the iReady app, and students do not have direct login credentials for the app. 

Using one of the recommended devices listed above, follow the steps below to access iReady.

The i-Ready diagnostic assessment is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. The purpose of this is not to give your student a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your student’s learning.

The i-Ready diagnostic assessment is designed for students to get about 50 percent of the questions correct and 50 percent incorrect. The test will find a “just right” placement level for your student in the quickest, most efficient way possible.

The assessment is untimed, which mean that students can spend as long as they need on each question, and time spent taking the assessment does not impact their score. Even though it is untimed, the average duration of the i-Ready Diagnostic is 45 minutes per subject, but it varies between grade levels. Please refer to the table for grade specific estimations.
