Vision for English Language Arts Instruction

Renton School District’s English Language Arts is based on Common Core standards for reading, writing, speaking and listening. Preschool focuses on developing Emergent Literacy Skills. In grades K – 8, students develop Reading and Writing skills through a Balanced Literacy model. Students individual needs are met using  Reading and Writing Workshop curriculum.  In high school, students read a variety of texts and write in many forms, developing their speaking, listening and language skills  as outlined by the Common Core State Standards.  Your child’s classroom teacher can provide more information on their grade level curriculum.

Vision for Social Studies Instruction

Students study social studies to understand our past and the world today. New materials have recently been adopted for 10th grade World History and 12th-grade Civics/Contemporary World Problems. In 2016-2017 we will select new materials for 6th-grade ancient civilizations, 8thgrade US History, and transition to a year of Washington State History in 7th Grade.
