Renton School District

Career Connected Learning

Career connected learning can take many forms, all of which prepare students for success beyond their K-12 experience. The Renton School District facilitates a variety of opportunities for students to raise awareness, explore, and prepare for future careers.

Classroom learning often involves career awareness and exploration through guest speakers, worksite tours, course related career research, and practical experiences. CTE classes help students develop transferable skills, many offer job market ready industry certifications.

Beyond the classroom, students are invited to attend career, trades, and college fairs as well as networking events, after school leadership and skill building clubs.

Career preparation involves real-world experiences that combine classroom, on-the-job learning, and mentorship. Some of the opportunities available to students include worksite learning, apprenticeships, and internships.

Worksite Learning

Available to students aged 16+, Worksite Learning provides students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills, while earning high school credit, through employment connected to CTE classes. More about Worksite Learning

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships combine learning and on-the-job training under the supervision of an experienced professional. Apprentices get paid while developing specific skills and knowledge for a trade. More about Apprenticeships

Internships

Internships are official programs offered by employers to potential employees. Interns work for a company in either a part- or full-time role for a certain period of time. For high school students, that is often during summer break. More about Internships
