Cosmetology Program Information
Is there an age requirement?
Yes, Washington State requires students to be at least 16 years old to participate in educational programs and at least 18 years old to take the licensure exam.
How important is attendance?
Excellent attendance is essential to success and remaining in the program. With learning and practice happening for 4 hours every day, even a single absence means falling behind. Evergreen Beauty College also has an attendance policy and will remove students from the program for poor attendance.
What about grades?
Good grades are also essential to demonstrating that you have learned the skills necessary to provide services in this industry. Textbook and skills exams require a minimum 76% grade to pass a unit in this program.
Will I graduate high school?
Students selected to participate in this program will be required to have an individual meeting to assess their graduation track. Students have the opportunity to earn the following graduation credits through participation in this program: 1.0 ELA 12 (language arts), 1.0 Fine Arts, 1.0 Lab Science or Science Elective, 3.0 CTE. All credits may also be used as general electives.
The Cosmetology Program requires on-campus learning Monday - Friday from 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm from July - completion of 1,600 practical hours (generally the July following graduation). That means students only have periods 1-3 at their home high school to complete graduation requirements.
Participation in this program requires planning, commitment, and hard work.
What's the environment like?
Evergreen Beauty College is a private institution training future professionals to meet their career goals in a competitive industry. Students have invested a lot of money and time to be in this program and are serious about their learning. As with attending any other college program, Renton School District students will be expected to 'adult' professionally every day. You will be expected to show up every day, without excuse or drama, ready to fully participate and learn.
