What is Cosmetology?
Cosmetology is the art and science of hair, skin, and nails. Cosmetologists often cut, color, chemically treat, and style hair as well as evaluate an individual's hair to make recommendations on styles, treatments, and product use. Beyond hair, cosmetologists also care for skin and nails through treatments such as facials, manicures, and pedicures.
What types of jobs are available?
Cosmetology often brings a vision of hairdresser or barber, makeup artist, skin and spa treatments, and nail specialists. While those are all possibilities, the world of cosmetology is much broader offering specialties in color, chemical treatment, locks, facials, theater makeup, manicures, and so on.
Beyond the salon floor, you may find your passion in salon management or ownership, consultant, skincare specialist, aesthetic sales, sales management, blogger, editorial, educator or trainer, entertainment specialist, or product development. Careers may be close to home or traveling as a personal stylist or aboard a cruise ship.
