You can earn extra money while supporting your school community by becoming a substitute.

  • If you have a bachelor’s degree and some experience working with children or students, you may qualify for an emergency substitute certificate, which would allow you to earn $200 a day as a substitute
  • Emergency certificated substitutes are eligible for additional generous bonuses:
    • $750 after working 25-50 assignments
    • $750 after working 51-75 assignments
    • $1,000 after working 76-100 assignments
    • $5,000 after working more than 101 assignments!
    • After working 20 days as an emergency certificated sub or a paraprofessional sub, you will earn a $500 signing bonus.
    • After working 630 hours, you will qualify for benefits through the School Employees Benefit Board (SEBB).
  • Don't have a bachelor’s degree but have your high school diploma or equivalent, you can work as a paraprofessional substitute, including working in a classroom, providing 1:1 support to students or providing supervision during lunches or recess. The current pay ranges from $22.90 to $24.51 (special education para) depending on the assignment.
    • After working 20 days as an emergency certificated sub or a paraprofessional sub, you will earn a $500 signing bonus.
    • After working 630 hours, you will qualify for benefits through the School Employees Benefit Board (SEBB).
