Student Teachers/Internships
Renton School District welcomes student teachers and student interns for various roles in our schools. This process for requesting student teacher or internship placement goes through Human Resources.
Student Teacher & school counseling internships
To begin the process of requesting a student teaching or Educational Support Associate (ESA) internship in the Renton School District, please complete the request form linked below.
Student Teacher & Internship Request Form - 2025-26
For programs with multiple components (ex: 10 weeks in general education, 10 weeks in SPED), please complete one request for EACH component.
Once the form is complete, we’ll work on matching the needs of the program with possible host/cooperating teachers or ESAs and complete our HR process steps to confirm the student is eligible to work in our schools. We will do our best to find hosts, but we cannot guarantee a placement due to timing, program requirements and available Renton staff.
To make the process as efficient as possible, we recommend students have:
- A pre-residency certificate on file with OSPI (student teachers, counselors)
- Fingerprints on file with OSPI
- Completed the form with as much information as possible
Please note that we must have an up-to-date affiliation agreement with the sponsoring program/university on file to host student teachers/interns.
Students and program representatives will be contacted as soon as there is a possible match. We ask for students and hosts meet virtually prior to confirming the placement to ensure requirements and goals are clear and both parties want to move forward.
At this time, the following schools are not accepting student teachers:
- Bryn Mawr Elementary
Timing:
We recommend providing as much notice as possible to support finding a host/cooperating teacher. For requests for an upcoming school year, matching will be done beginning in June after RSD staff assignments and locations are set for the following year.
For more information or questions about student teaching, please reach out to Human Resources Recruitment Office at recruitment@rentonschools.us.
