Public Records Request
Public Records
The Washington State Public Records Act, RCW 42.56 provides for the release of public records maintained by a public agency, such as a school district, with some exceptions. School district records related to the conduct of operations and functions of the district that have been prepared, owned, used, or retained by the District in any format are public records to which members of the public may request access.
When processing requests under the Public Records Act, the District will provide the fullest assistance to the requester and provide a response in the most timely manner possible. Please see the District's Policy & Procedure 4040 Public Access to District Records for more information.

What happens after a request is made?
When the public records office receives a request, it joins a queue of other public records requests in process.
Within five business days the requester will be sent a notification that the request has been received. The public records office then contacts the department(s) that holds the records sought and provides them with a copy of the request. The departments will identify, collect and forward any responsive records to the public records office. Once received, we review the records and may redact information as allowed by the Public Records Act, other state/federal law, or case law. We may also notify third parties who have an interest in the records that are requested. Once we complete the review and records
are ready to be released, the requester will be contacted. Response time to requests varies depending on many factors such as volume and complexity.
