Non-medical Leaves of Absence

Renton School District employees who need to take an extended leave of absence that is NOT related to their own personal or member of their family's medical condition can submit a request for a non-medical leave of absence.

CBA Leave, such as personal leave, contractual leave, bereavement leave, etc. do NOT need to be requested and approved here. If you wish to request personal leave usage on a restricted day, please fill out the Restricted Day Request form found on  Frontline Central.  

Here are some examples of non-medical leaves you may request: 

  • Educational Leaves of Absence - you need time off to attend classes and/or student teach 
  • Military Leaves of Absence - you have military orders requiring you to miss work 
  • Subpoena/Judicial Leave - you have been subpoenaed to appear in court and need to submit documentation. 
  • Superintendent's Leave (REA only) 
  • Professional Experience Leave (REA only) 
  • Public Office Leave - you are serving a term in public office and need a leave to fulfill your duties 
  • Long-term Leave without Pay (non-medical) - broad category for long-term leaves that may be granted under your CBA 
  • Domestic Violence Leave - you are a victim of domestic violence and need time off to attend court proceedings, move your family or meet with legal counsel, for example 
  • Once in a lifetime leave (AFT/REA) 

Staff requesting a non-medical leave of absence must apply for the leave using the Non-Medical Leave of Absence Request Form in Frontline Central. To access the form, login to the RSD Login Portal, select the Frontline Education tile. Once in Frontline, select Frontline Central. In My Forms, select “Forms I Can Start” and then click the “Start this Form” button for the Non-Medical Leave of Absence Request Form

Please allow up to two weeks for your request to be evaluated by Human Resources. Please note, requesting non-medical leave does not mean a non-medical leave is approved.
