Welcome to Categorical Programs

  •  Welcome

The Department of Categorical Programs upholds the District core values of serving our students, staff, families and communities by removing barriers and pursuing outcomes that enable all students to realize their full potential and maximize their future opportunities.

We support students in the following categories: Learning Assistance Program, English Language Learners, Native American Education, McKinney-Vento/Foster Care, Title I Schools as well as provide interpreting/translation services throughout the District.

Dual Language Education/Educación de Lenguaje Dual

We are exploring the possibility of starting a dual language program in the Renton School District.

Dual language education is when two language groups (English/Spanish) purposefully learn each other’s languages together with the goal of becoming fully bilingual. Please see the attached powerpoint: Dual Language Study Session

If you are a family with children ages 2-4, Renton School District is hosting a series of Community Conversations about Dual Language Education. At these meetings, families will hear about the benefits of bilingualism and how a dual language program provides another option for college and career readiness.

Families can choose to attend the meeting most convenient for them; no RSVP is needed to attend. Interpreters are available upon request.

For more information or to request an interpreter, contact Norma Cuevas: dual.language@rentonschools.us
