8th Grade Presidential Academic Awards Criteria

  • Every year, students across the nation in grades 5 (or 6), 8, and 12 have the opportunity to be recognized for outstanding achievement through the President’s Award for Educational Excellence or the President’s Award for Educational Achievement. These awards are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals.

    At the 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony in June, 8th grade students who meet the following criteria will receive one of these prestigious awards:

    President’s Award for Academic Excellence or Gold Level Award

    • Passing all 3 MSP subtests in the 7th grade
    • Earning a 3.75 grade point or higher average during their 3 years at McKnight
    • Outstanding citizenship (no discipline referrals throughout middle school)

    President’s Academic Achievement or Silver Level Award                            

    • Passing all 3 MSP subtests in the 7th grade
    • 3.6 to 3.749 grade point or higher average during their 3 years at McKnight
    • Outstanding citizenship (no discipline referrals throughout middle school)
