    Band

    FULL YEAR

    At least one year of band experience is required. Students will learn to rehearse and perform concerts band music as well as music fundamentals (tone, rhythm, scales, and reading music). Students will be expected to provide their own instruments except for larger, less common instruments. Students will perform in concerts and events at Nelsen.

    Orchestra

    FULL YEAR

    One to two years’ experience on string instrument required. Focuses on group and individual technique and using increasingly complex songs in a variety of styles. The group will have a number of performances, and students have additional opportunities to perform for special events.  Students are expected to provide their own instruments.

    Choir

    FULL YEAR

    Student will develop good vocal techniques, learn basics of sight-reading, music theory, and explore various periods in music history while preparing for a variety of performances. Choir students will build sight-reading skills, basic music theory knowledge, vocal techniques and performance skills.

    Spanish

    FULL YEAR

    The course aims to teach students to understand spoken Spanish, and to speak the language with the proper pronunciation and intonation. Emphasis is placed on listening-comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the language. High school credit will be granted upon successful completion of this course.

    Art

    HALF YEAR

    Enhance self-image & educational growth of students by providing a positive, creative and visually stimulating classroom environment. A variety of creative activities will be explored including drawing, painting and clay work.

    Drama

    HALF YEAR

    Student will develop an awareness of the world of Theatre. Drama students will participate in class activities ranging from costume, set and stage make-up design, to movement, and publicity.  They will also improvise, write, read and perform scenes and short plays. 

    Leadership

    HALF YEAR

    Leadership will be open to all students, but teacher recommendation will be required. Students will assist in planning school-wide activities such as dances, fundraisers, and maintaining the building bulletin boards.  They will enhance their leadership abilities in communication, collaboration, planning and human relations. 

    Technology Education

    HALF YEAR

    Student will learn how Science, Technology, concepts contribute to Medical detectives, Automation and Robotics  One semester students will study the history of medical detectives through hands-on activities, measure vital signs, and learn how to the systems of the human body work. Another semester students will trace the history, development, and influence of automation & robotics.  They will learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation and computer control systems.
