Building a New Renton High School

Thanks to overwhelming voter support of the November 2022 School Construction election measure (which passed with 64% approval), the district continues to move forward with plans to provide a more equitable comprehensive high school site for Renton High School students, staff, and families.
Full New Campus
Holding true to the promises we made and were approved by voters, we’re building a three-story comprehensive high school for Renton High School students, staff, and families. The new school campus, which will be built on the current Renton High site and expanded area, includes core classrooms and other learning environments for Career and Technical Education, college-level (International Baccalaureate) classes, art, science, electives, health services spaces, community spaces, library, gyms, cafeteria, commons, special services, and more. The new campus also includes a lighted athletic baseball/softball field and a practice football/soccer field in northwest corner (see "New Renton High Campus" tab below for artist rendering).
School Board Presentation on New Renton High Campus

We continue to work to purchase property in the immediate vicinity for the new Renton High School site. Our plan is to build new school buildings on the expanded site, while retaining the original 1929 historic portion of the current Renton High School façade and the IKEA Performing Arts Center.
At their public meeting on July 23, 2025, Renton School Board members were presented an update on the progress to build the new Renton High School campus, including an updated timeline and artist renderings of what the campus will look like.
