Building a New Renton High School
Thanks to overwhelming voter support of the November 2022 School Construction election measure (which passed with an overwhelming 64% approval), the district continues to move forward with plans to provide a more equitable comprehensive high school site for Renton High School students, staff, and families.
Our voters again showed their support for the work being done in our school district to educate students and prepare them for a successful future, to maintain our schools in excellent operating condition, to plan and execute a long-range school maintenance and construction plan, and to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars by presenting election measures that intentionally consider tax implications for district property owners. We appreciate the trust our community has in our work to ensure each student graduates with options and is prepared to participate fully in our democracy.
School Board Presentation on New Renton High Campus
Renton School District’s Capital Planning and Construction Department staff continue to work to purchase property in the immediate vicinity for the new Renton High School site. Our plan is to build new school buildings and athletic fields on the expanded site, while retaining the original 1929 historic portion of the current Renton High School façade and the IKEA Performing Arts Center.
At their public meeting on January 22, 2025, Renton School Board members were presented an update on the progress to build the new Renton High School campus, including an updated timeline and artist renderings of what the campus will look like.
