Building a New Renton High School
Thanks to overwhelming voter support of the November 2022 School Construction election measure, the district continues to move forward with plans to provide a more equitable comprehensive high school site for Renton High School students, staff, and families.
Renton School District voters passed the district's School Construction election measure on the Nov. 8, 2022 ballot with an overwhelming 64% approval. Our voters again showed their support for the work being done in our school district to educate students and prepare them for a successful future, to maintain our schools in excellent operating condition, to plan and execute a long-range school maintenance and construction plan, and to present election measures that intentionally consider tax implications for district property owners.
We appreciate the trust our community has in our work to ensure each student graduates with options and is prepared to participate fully in our democracy.
Renton School District’s Capital Planning and Construction Department staff are now reviewing site expansion opportunities at the current Renton High School site and surrounding neighborhood. The work will include identifying and purchasing additional adjacent property, coordinating with the Renton Municipal Airport & the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on airspace and ground clearance restrictions, relocation of existing district warehouse facilities, and more. Our plan is to build a new high school building and athletic fields on the expanded site, while retaining the original 1929 historic portion of the current Renton High School façade and the IKEA Performing Arts Center.
