Lindbergh High School Modernization

Phase I construction began in 2022 with construction of the new entryway, administration office, health clinic, and the demolition of Lincoln House in preparation for new science classrooms/labs. This phase continued into the school year, but the most disruptive work was completed when the time students were off-campus.

Once this work was complete, our second year of construction included a new science classroom wing addition to provide four additional science classrooms/labs.  Additionally, new counseling offices and career center spaces were created by remodeling the former administration offices.  

The last year of construction included remodeling existing science classrooms to be equivalent to the new science wing classrooms spaces, updating locker rooms & athletic learning spaces, and finalizing a first phase of building-wide HVAC updates.

Phase II construction begins in 2026 with seismic upgrades at the skybridge connecting the gym to the main building.  Additionally, ductwork improvements will be occurring in the maintenance tunnels beneath the school.

Starting in the summer of 2027 and continuing through the summer of 2029, phased improvements to the seismic structural systems and HVAC systems will be occurring throughout the school.  This work will impact smaller areas of the school where all construction work will be completed and then the contractor will move to another area to complete similar work.  This cycle will occur in many spaces over a 27 month period of time.

While some of this construction work can be accomplished in the summer, the scope of the project requires that construction had to occur while school is in session.

Our construction partners have extensive experience in completing construction projects while minimizing the effects on students and staff to allow for minimal interruption to the teaching & learning process. Thorough planning of the construction timeline and phases are very helpful in minimizing disruptions.

The Capital Planning & Construction department have a project manager assigned throughout this project to quickly work through any concerns or issues identified by the students and staff at the school.

• Safety: We work to ensure students, families, and staff are clear on parking lot, walkway, and interior school changes and procedures necessary during construction in occupied schools and facilities. We post signage on school grounds and install highly visible signs and barriers around construction zones to prevent students from entering certain areas.
• Noise: Loud noises during construction are unavoidable, and they can substantially interfere with students’ ability to concentrate, especially for those with sensory challenges. Noise can be minimized to a certain degree with construction protocols. We also work to schedule loud construction activities at times and places that have the lowest amount of disruption.
• Environmental Disturbances: Construction can also result in other environmental disturbances, such as smells and dust. Our construction partners take precautions to mitigate these factors and ensure minimal harmful impacts.
• Placement of equipment and materials during construction
  Staged construction materials and equipment have to be located on school grounds. The areas required for this have to shift as construction progresses.  Students and staff are notified as changes are made. All of this work is done to assure that ample room for Lindbergh student and staff parking is maintained during school days.
