Schedule Change Policy

  • Hazen High School Schedule Change Policy

    Our goal is to provide all students with a fair and equitable schedule, ensuring that students meet graduation requirements and maintain college eligibility. This policy will ensure balanced class sizes with the staffing resources available.


    General Schedule Change Policy

    • All schedule changes should be completed by the 4th day of the semester
    • Any schedule change request after the 4th day of the semester will be reviewed to determine individual need
    • Any changes made after the 10th day will result in a (F) for the semester grade, no new courses can be added after 10 days
    • Class changes are completed for the semester only, no student initiated quarter changes will be granted


    9th & 10th Grades Semester Changes

    Academic Courses: (No class period or teacher changes will be granted)
     
    • All academic courses are required for graduation (Language Arts 1-2, Math, Science, Health/IIT, World History, Biology, Physical Education)
     

    Elective Course (Semester changes only, no quarter changes)

    Students are permitted to make elective changes during their study hall and or elective period only
     
    • Schedules will not be adjusted to meet elective class request
    • All changes will be completed by the 4th day of the new semester
     

    Teacher Changes(Classes are randomly selected by the computer)

    Classes will not be adjusted to meet a teacher change request, without previous interventions and approval by an Administrator
     

    Ability Level Changes (Teacher Initiated Change)

    Teachers may recommend ability level changes if available, when appropriate for student success


    11th & 12th Grades Semester Changes

    Academic Full Year Courses-
     
    • Student must demonstrate a need to drop an academic class (low academic success)
    • Student  must provide written notification from parent/guardian their request to drop course
    • Student must have already met all graduation requirements in subject matter
    • A note from the current teacher may be required to verify academic deficiency
    • Students coming out of a year-long course will have last priority when selecting the new semester-long class 

    Elective Course (Semester changes only, no quarter changes)

    Students are permitted to make elective changes during their study hall and or elective period only
     
    • Schedules will not be adjusted to meet elective class request, unless change is necessary for a graduation requirement or college entrance requirement
    • All changes will be completed by the 4th day of the new semester
