    Are you interested in participating in the Running Start program next year?

    Your school counselors have set aside time to tell you how the program works. Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 13th during lunch or Tuesday, Feb. 26 during lunch in the Lecture Hall to learn all about the Running Start program! We’re also offering Family Running Start Info Sessions on the same days at 6pm in the Hazen Auditorium.

    Students, do you have questions about your credits as you prepare for Registration?

    Counselors will be available all next week during lunch in the Commons to answer your questions!

    We have sweatshirts for sale with a new throwback logo. This is a school wide sale. Each sweatshirt is $26 with an additional $5 for a customization.     ATHLETICS

    Hazen Wrestling is hosting the 8th annual Taking Down Pancreatic Cancer Duals this Saturday at Highline High School in Burien. The team will compete for the top spot against some of Washington’s best programs while raising money to benefit Pancreatic Cancer, which is currently the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the US. Doors will open to the public at 8am, entry is by donation. All proceeds are donate to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network! Want to help out at Hazen Wrestling’s PANCAN tournament? Volunteers and food donations are still needed! If you would like to help please email Coach Magana!

    Attention all Spring Athletes! If you plan on trying out for baseball, softball, girls tennis, track and field, or boys soccer: FamilyID is now open for registration. Starting February 4th, you will be able to start the clearing process during lunches and after school until 3pm.

    The Bowling Team qualified three team members to District. Jamilet Marinez-Reyes who placed 1st, Diana Flores placed 3rd and Kimberly Martinez placed 6th. Congratulations Ladies, great bowling!

    Hazen Gymnasts did well at last nights’ quad meet with Thomas Jefferson, Kentlake, and Federal Way. Congratulations to Elexa Nguyen, Morgan, Shepherd, Riley O’Brien, and Olivia McPherson! At the Saturday Invitational many girls placed in top 10 in their divisions. Great job Hazen Gymnasts!

    Guten Tag, Highlanders!

    Are you ready for a scavenger hunt? There are 23 yellow, red and black posters around the school explaining 23 reasons why you should be interested in learning German. The first person who takes a selfie with all 23 posters and brings the pictures to room 132 to show Frau wins a giant bag of German chocolate and other goodies. The posters are all in plain view. (There are a few consolation prizes if you aren’t the first!) Have fun!

    Hazen Wrestling will compete tonight in a quad dual vs Tahoma, Mount Rainier, and Kennedy Catholic. JV will wrestle at Tahoma, Varsity will wrestle at Mount Rainier! Come support the team as they grapple for position in the league standings. Wrestling will begin at 5pm! ETG!

    Clearing times are lunch and after school until 3:00pm. Once all this is completed, Ms. Olson will let you know if you are cleared. If you are in Running Start, make sure you pick up a current WIAA form and TELL MS. OLSON YOU ARE IN RUNNING START!

    Parking Tickets

    If you get a parking citation this week you may pay it in the ASB Office. All students who park on campus must pay for a parking pass and register all vehicles with proof of insurance in the Main Office. After these steps, students must place validation sticker on back passenger window. Failure to do so will result in a ticket. Running Start students must also pay for a parking pass, even if you only occasionally park on campus.

    Clearing for Spring If you plan on trying out for baseball, softball, girls tennis, track and field or boys soccer….listen up. FamilyID is now open so you can register. Starting on Feb.4th, you will be able to start the clearing process. 
    1- Go to the ASB office and pay for your sports fee and ASB sticker if you don’t have it. ( if this is your 3rd sport it’s free!)

Olivia McPherson placed 6th on Floor and 8th All Around. Morgan Shepherd placed 7th on Bars, 10th on Floor and 9thAll Around. Next meet is Wednesday, January 16th at Thomas Jefferson.

    Congratulations to the Hazen Girls Soccer team for receiving the United Soccer Coaches Gold level Team Ethics Award of Merit. The Lady Highlanders had zero red cards and one yellow in 19 games showing great poise under pressure.

    Humanities Architecture Exhibit in the Commons Tomorrow!

    This year’s senior Humanities students have designed Greek, Roman, Mesoamerican, or Buddhist-inspired buildings reflecting a myth of their choice. The projects will be exhibited in the lower Commons all day tomorrow. Each project will have “museum cards” explaining the individual design decisions made by each group. Please visit the exhibit before and after school and during lunch. Thank you in advance for respecting the work the students have done, and enjoy the show!

    Health Science field trip

    As announced before break, students interested in careers in healthcare are invited to participate in the

    ATHLETICS

    The Hazen wrestling team was busy over break! Wrestling the two days leading up to New Years: Quan Ly, Dino Bui, and Jayden Hewitt all placed in the top 8 at the 32 man Doc Herren wrestling Tournament. Bui placed 8th, Ly 6th, and Hewitt 4th. Last Thursday the team wrestled Lindbergh and Renton, winning the All-City Dual Championship for the third straight year. Hazen racked up a total of 111 points between both duals. On Friday and Saturday William Sirbu, John Gonzalez, Quan Ly, and Dino Bui competed at the nationally broadcast “FloWrestling” GutCheck Challenge at Showare Center. Sirbu and Bui made it to the top 12 out of 64 athletes, qualifying for day 2. Ly was also in the top 16 in his weight class. Hazen also had three placers at Everett Classic and Panther Classic with Emanuel Lesan placing second, Max Whitney placing third, and Carlos Crespo placing 5th!

    The Highlanders will wrestle at home for senior night on Wednesday at Kentwood! Come support the team in their last home match of the season!
