    Are you interested in speaking at the Veteran’s day assembly?

    Veteran’s day is just around the corner, and this year we want to hear from you. Write a speech about your personal experiences in the United States of America. This can range from how you’ve experienced patriotism or the armed forces to why you are proud of your country. For more information, ask Ms. Ramirez in the ASB office. Get them in ASAP if you want to be chosen!

    Today is National Coming Out Day

    This is a day to recognize LGBT+ folks who have revealed their gender/sexuality publicly. It’s a great time to celebrate yourself and/or your friends who have come out publicly with their sexuality and/or gender. Please also remember that coming out is a process and can be stressful and scary. Make sure your friends are comfortable with you sharing any details about them to others.

    Have you heard about the Hazen Commemorative Challenge Coins?

    HOSA was preselling at Homecoming? They have arrived and look great! The coins are in limited supply and are being made available for sale at school before being put on the website for Alumni to purchase. Coins are $15 and will be available at the Blood Drive sign-up table all next week. Get yours before they sell out. HOSA is also selling the last few of the Hazen Fanny Pack First Aid Kits at the booth for $15 as well.

    Hazen is offering a class to all parents whose first language is not English

    The class is free to all, childcare is provided and the first class is tonight in D109 between 6 - 8:30 PM. Parents will learn about the US school system and how to communicate with teachers. Please come by Mrs. Perkins room in D109 for more information.

    Game day for Hazen Soccer - and those in the know get what that means for Mount Rainier! JV travels to Mt. Rainier HS at 7:00 and Varsity is at Highline Stadium at 7:30pm. Good soccer tonight folks - consider seeing this one.

    Hazen Football goes against Federal Way and is being televised tonight at 7pm on ROOT TV (Comcast channel 30)! Check it out!

    Running Start athletes doing a fall sport You must get a copy of your grades from your college and return it to Ms. Olson no later than Wednesday, October 17th. We need a list of every class you are taking and the % or grade in each class. If they are NOT turned in by the 17th, you will be ineligible until they are received.

The University of Arizona will be presenting in the Career Center during 5th period on Monday.     The Hazen Tennis Team defeated Tahoma 4-1 at home yesterday on senior night. Man of the Match was Alex Huynh who cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win in #1 singles. The JV picked up another win on the road. The Highlanders travel to Kennedy on Thursday in their last regular match of the season while JV hosts a double-header at home.

    Clearing for Winter Sports This is what you should be doingNOW! If it’s your first sport, make sure you get a physical and register on FamilyID, instructions are in the main office. If it’s your 2nd sport, remember you have to re-register for the new Winter sport on FamilyID. Starting October 29th, you can pay for the sports fee and your ASB sticker if you don’t have one yet. Everyone will have to stop by Ms. Olson’s desk to get the final clearance. Stay tuned! More instructions to follow.

    The Hazen Cross-Country team takes on Kentridge and Tahoma tomorrow at Lake Wilderness Park. Come out and cheer on your Seniors as they compete in their last dual meet of their Hazen career against two of the best teams in the league. Races start at 4pm.

    Hazen Girls Swim & Dive had an impressive meet yesterday! Congrats to State Breaststroke Qualifier Kylie Doan! District Qualifier Emma Murdy! and League Qualifiers Magen Arndt, Jenny Garcia-Barrera, and Jasmine Nguyen.

    Hazen Tennis swept Kentlake 5-0 yesterday at home. Men of the Match were Anthony Vu and Eric Ly who didn’t drop a game in their 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 doubles. Josh Kim also swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in #2 singles. The Highlanders next match is at home on Tuesday against Tahoma for senior day.

    The Golf Boys lost yesterday to Tahoma 70-83. Derek Hahn was medalist shooting a 4 under par 32 with 22 points, and Elliott Goulet had 16 points. The Golf Girls improved to 7-2 with a win over Tahoma 59-54. Bailey Lengfelder led Hazen with 18 points, andJade Egan had 16 points.

    Girls Varsity Volleyball team has a big game tonight against one of their biggest rivals, Kennedy Lancers, at Kennedy high school. Game starts at 7:15 pm in Burien. Also, ladies be sure to be on the bus by 2:15pm.

    The Tennis Team improved its record to 10-1 yesterday with a win at Kent-Meridian. Men of the Match were #1 doubles team of brothers Mark and Nick Ngo and #2 team Mark Braun and Josh Kittay who defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-1. JV had a big win as well. The Highlanders take on Kentlake at home today at 3:30.

    The Hazen Cross-Country Team had its best race of the year yesterday beating Kentwood and KM in both the Varsity and J.V. Races. Rachel Dennis won the girls race as the Lady Highlanders put 5 runners in the top ten. Rutger Youch finished fourth to lead the boy’s team who avenged their loss to Kentwood last year.

    Youth of the Month application is available in the Career Center. The program was established by the Rotary Club of Renton to honor outstanding students!     The Boys Golf Team lost another hard match to Kennedy Catholic 50-52. Elliott Goulet and Derek Hanh were co-medalist with a score of 38 and 16 points. The Girls Golf Team lost to Kennedy Catholic 79-84. Bailey Lengfelder had her season best score of 40 and 23 points. Jade Egan added 16 points.

    Come out and cheer on the Hazen Cross Country team as they take on Kentwood and Kent Meridian at Philip Arnold Park. Races start at 3pm.

They don't know it, but our secret weapon is The Joe and our great crowds. Today, on campus JV at 5:30 Varsity at 7:30, you're standing right next to the field - you've got to be there.

    Want to be a part of Hazen Drill? The team will be hosting JV Drill tryouts today from 5-8pm in the gymnastics gym! The team would love to have you join their family! 9-12 grade welcome.

    Girls volleyball is starting conference play this Tuesday at 7:15pm vs Kentlake at home and away Thursday vs Kennedy at 7:15. The girls won last Thursday, bringing their record to 4-3!

    Boys Golf had another tough 1 point loss to Kentridge 57-58. Derek Hanh was again medalist with a score of 34 and 19 points. Elliott Goulet shot 38 and 16 points. Girls Golfimprove to 6-1 with a win over Kentridge 82-77. It was the 3rd match in a row that Hazen has scored it's season high score. They were led by Bailey Lengfelder who had 18 points. Dominik Datangel had 17 points, and Crystal Moghimi had 16 points.

    Congratulations to the Hazen Tennis Team for their big win on Friday over undefeated Kentwood to put them in the running for a league tie at 9-1 each. Man of the Match was Sohil Shah who defeated a tough opponent 6-0, 6-3. Mark Ngo and Alex Nguyen also battled to overcome a first set loss to ensure the team win. The JV also won in a close 3-2 match. The Highlanders travel to Kent Meridian on Tuesday.

    College Application and Financial Aid workshop This Thursday, October 4th Hazen High School is hosting the College Application and Financial Aid workshop in the Library and Computer Lab from 2:30 – 7PM. College admissions representatives and financial experts from various colleges will provide one-on-one support for seniors and their families navigating the path to college – including researching colleges, filling out applications, drafting personal statements and understanding the financial aid application. Please take advantage of this opportunity to receive support in completing college and/or financial aid applications! For more information, see Mr. Nguyen in the Career Center.
