Welcome to the Class of 2021
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION (First Day of School for ALL Students)– August 30 Wednesday, August 30 th is Freshman Orientation Day, a full day of school for all Hazen Students. Buses will run on the normal schedule with the day beginning at 7:20 and concluding at 2:03. The orientation will include an opening assembly in the gymnasium. All students will then meet with their student mentors (Gordy Guides) during the morning session. These guides are here to welcome freshmen to Hazen and will help them begin the year on the right foot. The cafeteria will be open for lunch. After lunch, students will visit each of their six classes for ten (10) minute periods. The day will end with a closing assembly run by Hazen students. Freshmen may also sign up for lockers (with a partner). This is an important day of school for all incoming 9th grade students. We look forward to seeing all 9th graders!
CLASS SCHEDULES Schedules will be released through Skyward Family Access (online) on Monday, August 28 th at 4:00 p.m. If you have forgotten your Skyward Access log-in information, click on “forgot your login/password” on the log in page. You will also get your schedule on August 30 th during Freshman Orientation. Beginning the first day of school, announcements will be made to ensure all students are aware of the schedule change request process. Do not call counselors prior to the first day of school for any schedule changes.
PICTURE DAY – AUGUST 22 All ninth graders will come to the Hazen Commons on August 22 to have their picture taken. Times are listed below. Your photo for your ID card and the yearbook will be taken free of charge. These school pictures are provided for your convenience and help create a positive student environment. Students who wish to purchase photo packets may do so at that time. Photo packet prices will be available on the website later in August. If you miss picture day, we will have a picture make-up day on Wednesday, September 6th . You will be issued your ID card which will include your name and student number. This card must be carried with you at all times and must be presented to any staff member when requested. The ID card must be shown to be admitted to sports events, dances and for all purchases and pick-ups in any office.
ASB stickers, yearbooks and P.E. uniforms will not be sold on Picture Day. You can pay for these items online prior to Picture Day or in the ASB office starting on August 16th. Items purchased prior to August 15th online can be picked up on Picture Day with proof of purchase (receipt). There will be no bus transportation to and from Hazen on Picture Day.

Hazen fees and district fines can now be paid online with a credit or debit card. You may access the payment option by visiting the Renton School District Website www.rentonschools.us or the Hazen High School Website www.rentonschools.us/hazen

· “User Name” will be your child’s district ID number which is located on their ID card from last year
· “Password” will be your child’s last name (all CAPS)

ASB ACTIVITY STICKER
The cost of an Associated Student Body (ASB) validation sticker for activities is $30. This sticker will be placed on your ID card and will admit you, at no cost, to all home athletic events. It will also admit you, at a reduced rate, to plays, concerts, dances, and away athletic events. Students who participate on ASB sanctioned teams and clubs are required to buy a sticker. Purchase an ASB sticker and support your school activity program. Pay online prior to picture day and the ASB sticker will be automatically put on your card. If unable to pay online, you can pay in the ASB office starting on August 16th.
The yearbook price is $60 with ASB card and $70 without. Yearbooks will be available for purchase until November 1st. Yearbook prices will increase when the sale reopens in the winter and spring so buy it early for the best deal.
All freshmen will be required to purchase a P.E. T-shirt for $8. Students may wear their own shorts, yoga pants or sweatpants. If you wish to purchase both the Hazen T-shirt and shorts the cost is $15. Shorts alone are $8. Optional sweatshirts are available for $15. Pay online prior to Picture Day or in the ASB office starting August 16th. Bring your receipt to the ASB office on Picture Day to receive your purchase or on the first day of school.
FALL SPORTS CLEARANCE
The football season starts on August 16th. All other sports practice start on August 21st. Clearing for all sports will start on August 14th. Clearing hours are from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Football must be cleared by August 16th at 11:30am. We will have a special evening clearing on August 14th from 5 – 7 p.m. NO clearing on Fridays. Clearing starts in the ASB office. The athlete must have their completed physical (dated after May 15, 2017) and have already registered on Family ID in order to start the clearing process. You can access Family ID at https://www.familyid.com/hazen-high-school. Complete instructions on how to register on Family ID can be found on the Hazen website. Instructions can also be picked up outside the main office at Hazen High.
Athletes must pay a sports fee of $75 and purchase an ASB card for $30. These can be purchased online as long as the athlete does not have any unpaid fees, fines or detention hours. The sports fee can be reduced to $37.50 if the athlete is on the free or reduced lunch program. Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program must pay their sports fee in the ASB office. It cannot be paid online. Free lunch applications must be renewed each year.
Every student athlete must have medical insurance. School insurance is available and packets are in the athletic office. The athletic office will open on August 11th. Please call Vicki Olson at 425-204-4250 with any questions between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
If you will be a regular school bus rider, the District Transportation Department will be mailing bus information to your home. Additionally, bus routes can be found on the Renton School District website http://www.rentonschools.us starting mid-August. Select District Departments, then select Transportation and then Bus Routes. The phone number for the transportation department is 425-204-4455.
