Special Education

  • Courses listed below are available to all students who meet state eligibility criteria for special education services and are being served on the Individualized Education Program (IEP). This continuum includes specially designed instruction, accommodations, and related services in general education, special education and/or the community. Not every aspect of the continuum may be available at each school. Classes will be assigned based on individual student needs and the IEP process. As part of the IEP process the team may determine a particular course be repeated for credit.

    MATHEMATICS


    Mathematics Lab 1

    Prerequisite: IEP eligibility in mathematics
    • This course provides explicit instruction in basic mathematical skills and concepts. Skills include whole number computations, fractions, place value, probability, geometry, estimation and calculator use.

    Mathematics Lab 2

    Credit: To be determined on an individual basis (1 year – 1.0 math credit)
    Prerequisite: IEP eligibility in mathematics
    • This course builds on skills taught in Math Lab I, including explicit instruction on problem-solving and application skills with ratios, proportion, tables, graphs, fractions, decimals, geometry and factorization.

    Prerequisite: IEP eligibility in mathematics
    • This course is offered as the first in a 2-year algebra preparation course. It provides explicit instruction on essential pre-algebra and basic geometry content.

    • This course is offered as the first in a 2-year math course. It provides intensive math instruction targeting the application of basic math skills and problem-solving to everyday consumer situations.

    Prerequisite: Student has IEP goals in the area(s) covered in this class
    • This course of study provides an opportunity for students to practice skills related to their internships in the school or community. This includes time to discuss and resolve issues related to adaptive pre-vocational skills such as work attitude, organization, responsibility, behavioral management and effective communication.

    • These courses provide intensive instruction in academic concepts and skills to enable students to function and participate effectively in the community. Emphasis is placed on practical application to daily living skills, including effective communication and problem solving.

    • This course provides instruction on vocational and adaptive skills useful within the home, school and community. Specific skill areas are related to hygiene, self-help, communication, health, personal safety, mobility, shopping, money/budget, time concepts and community/social integration.
