• ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

  • The ELL program serves students in grades nine through twelve who are limited in English proficiency. The Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment (WELPA) placement test assists the District in appropriate identification and placement of ELL students. Students who qualify are placed in ELL classes in one of four levels: Newcomer, Beginning, Intermediate or Advanced. ELL students may repeat an ELL class as necessary. Credits earned in ELL are applied toward graduation requirements. ELL students are also placed in mainstream elective and content area courses. Ongoing assessment is provided to ensure appropriate placement. Students will be matriculated into the regular classroom as soon as possible, with a full–day regular education program being the ultimate goal.
