Dr. Arthur Jarvis is Interim Superintendent of the Renton School District. Dr. Jarvis took over the duties as interim superintendent in Renton on July 1, 2015.
Jarvis has 50 years experience in education and a combined total of 28 years’ experience serving as superintendent; This last year as interim superintendent for Shelton School District, five years in Tacoma Public Schools, 11 years at Enumclaw School District and 11 years at South Whidbey School District.
He has also served as the executive director for Washington State ASCD, was the chief financial officer for Seattle Public Schools, served as the assistant superintendent in Enumclaw where he oversaw human resources, curriculum and instruction, special education, federal programs and more. Jarvis was also a Jr. high school teacher in Enumclaw School District and a high school teacher in Waitsburg, WA.
Other professional experiences include teaching an education leadership superintendent program at Seattle University, special education consulting work with Seattle Schools, was a fellowship/assistant for the University of Washington, and he has done some adjunct teaching at Western Washington University.
Dr. Jarvis is a graduate of the University of Washington where he earned his B.A. in economics, social studies – education; his M.Ed., in special learning problems and special education; and his Ed.D., in education administration - policy and governance.
His peers selected him for the 2009 Washington State Superintendent of the Year and he was the recipient of the 2008 Gareth Giles Award through the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. In 2005 Jarvis was named the Washington State Superintendent of the Year through AASA/WASA and was a candidate for the 2005 National Superintendent of the Year. In 1998 he was the president of WSASC.
He currently has professional memberships with AASA, WASA, ASCD, WSASCD.
