The U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS) recognition award honors schools that are exemplary in reducing environmental impact and costs; improving the health and wellness of students and staff; and providing effective environmental and sustainability education.
2012 was the first year that the Green Ribbon award was presented. The Renton School District's Bryn Mawr Elementary School was awarded a Green Ribbon “Pillar 1” award for accomplishments in the area of Environmental Impact and Energy Efficiency.
Next year we will submit the Secondary Learning Center (SLC) facility as a viable candidate for the national Green Ribbon award. The SLC is a facility that embodies all the features of a sustainable green ribbon school with a soon-to-be launched interactive learning environment.
