In May 2003, voters approved a Technology and Construction bond, providing $26 million for technology.

Goals to be accomplished from this bond:

   to implement significant upgrades to a network which had been performing beyond it's intended capacity.
   to execute a large scale deployment of new computers and peripherals for classrooms, labs, libraries, and school office support staff.

Planning and implementation of network upgrades including installation of new servers, routing and switching equipment at 26 school sites, Transportation, Maintenance, Facilities, and Kohlwes Education Center (Spring 2003 through Summer 2004)
Telecommunication upgrades including installation of additional T-1 lines (Spring 2004)

Deployment of new computers and peripherals to school front offices, classroom teachers, and secondary school labs (Spring - Summer 2004)

Implementation of Destiny, a new browser-based central library management system for school libraries (Fall 2004)

Instructor presentation stations for each elementary and secondary school and seven secondary computer labs (Fall 2004-current)

Migration to Windows 2003 Server and Active Directory (2004-2005)

Strategic Listening Response Pads and Phone Survey Equipment (2005)

Conversion to Skyward web-based student database (2005); Skyward Gradebook implemented (2007)

Printer deployment (2005) - Additional deployment of new printers to replace "below standard" printers based on an allocation ratio of 1:4 (one printer per four certificated staff plus additional printers to support office functions). "At Standard" printers are defined as HP2200 or newer

Wireless Mobile Labs (WML) with instructional computers (2006)

Paperless system for Board of Directors and Superintendent Office for document sharing using BoardDocs.com (2006)

InTouch Cash Receipting Software and Hardware (2006)

Microsoft SharePoint Services implemented for staff communications (2007)

Fiber installation at all secondary schools, and Cascade, Renton Park and Spring Glen sites. Fiber to remaining sites will continue to be added throughout the school year. (2007-2008)

Deployment of new computers for teachers district-wide; previously used teacher machines were incorporated into instructional use by students. (2007)

Renton Learning Gateway for Teacher/Student/Parent collaboration (2007)

Microsoft Office 2007 including Internet Explorer 7 implemented (2007)

Secondary math classes received Texas Instrument wireless graphing calculators (2007)

Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) handheld computers implemented for grades K-5 reading assessment (2007)

Tablet PCs for Physical Education teachers implemented (2007)
