School Board places School Construction Bond measure before voters on April 17 ballot (ballots in homes March 28)
Planning for future middle school student needs, maintaining public investment in school buildings among reasons to rerun measure
March 1, 2012 - Voters in the Renton School District will have another chance to approve the Building for a Lifetime of Learning School Construction Bond measure on the April 17 ballot. The measure received substantial voter support on Feb. 14, with more than 58 percent of voters saying “YES” to the measure, but missed reaching the mandatory 60 percent supermajority mark by 2 percentage points. Two other measures — levies to fund classroom support and technology — passed with strong backing of more than 60 percent voter approval.

February 15, 2012 - Thousands of voters throughout the Renton School District showed their support and appreciation of local education by casting supportive votes in the Feb. 14 election. The district had three school funding measures on the ballot.
Nearly 13,000 ballots were counted in the first round of election results released Tuesday night by the King County Elections Office. The Education Replacement Levy received 60.10 percent yes votes; the Technology Levy received 59.07 percent yes votes; and the school construction bond measure received 56.57 percent yes votes (because bond measures need 60 percent approval to pass, the bond is not currently passing.)
“Having more than 60 percent of voters agree with and cast ballots in favor of anything (school district measures, political candidates, etc.) is incredible validation that the community appreciates and supports local education,” said Renton School District Superintendent Dr. Mary Alice Heuschel. “These election results provide clear public support of the hard work by district teachers and support staff, and the accomplishments of our students.”
