Basic information about:
Supplemental Education Services (SES) in Renton for 2009-10
Supplementary Education Services (SES) is a Federal Title I program requirement for schools who are in improvement for 3 years or more. There are 4 Renton schools that qualified to receive SES this year: Campbell Hill, Highlands, Renton Park Elementary schools and Dimmitt Middle School.
FOR A STUDENT TO QUALIFY TO RECEIVE SES in the Renton School District:
Students must attend one of these Renton schools: Campbell Hill, Highlands, Renton Park or Dimmitt.
The student must qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch in 2009-10. The application must be completed each year and processed through the District Nutrition Services and they notify families if they qualify or not. *Free/reduced applications are in the parent packet or in the school office.
The post card must be returned with the parents’ top two choices of providers and their signature requesting SES. The deadline to return the response card this year is 10/16/09. They can be returned before you know if the student qualifies, but the application for free/reduced lunch must be sent to Nutrition Services for this current school year immediately.
We cannot proceed with SES until the student’s free/reduced lunch application is processed and nutrition services indicates that they qualify.
IF the student qualifies, the school district will then provide information to the parent’s 1st choice of SES providers - so they can contact the parents to set up the tutoring services. Parents work directly with the provider from that point. (the 2nd choice is used if the 1st choice cannot provide service to the student)
Renton School District is not an SES provider. The SES providers must apply with the State Office (OSPI) in April and those that are approved by the State are on the list. They are all independent contractors.
Renton School District does not “recommend” any one provider. If parents ask, we can provide information about what services the providers offer, service location, and other information about the provider that is available from the provider list.
SES is a limited amount of tutoring. The State of Washington (OSPI) sets a “maximum” amount of money allowed for tutoring for each SES student. The amount available per student is set by the State Office (OSPI) according to the Federal funding. *If a family chooses a more expensive provider – there will be fewer tutoring sessions during the year for the student.
